Betsy Walls, Another Leader in Our Ranks Receives Well Deserved Award!

It is our honor to recognize the exceptional accomplishments of our own Elizabeth (Betsy) Walls on her recent award by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a Pennsylvania PHEP Trailblazer for her many years of service to Public Health Emergency Preparedness. Betsy has served on the CCDC Leadership Council for many years and, although officially retired, continues to participate, and support all of our programs and initiatives to serve Delaware County. 

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the PHEP, Betsy's recognition as one of only two PHEP Trailblazers in Pennsylvania is quite an honor since only a select number of state, local and regional public health preparedness team members are singled out for such accolades.

Betsy served the Delaware County Memorial Hospital in the positions of Nurse, Nurse Administrator, and Nurse Education for over three decades and Penn Medicine in Chester County as a Nursing Supervisor for seven additional years. She served as the Director of Personal Health/ PHEP for the Chester County Health Department from 1997-2015.  In addition, Betsy has been a leader throughout her career serving as President of the Delaware County Nurse Association, the Pennsylvania Nursing Association, and the President of the Pennsylvania Nurses Foundation.

Somewhere amidst that very distinguished career, Betsy also served for ten years as a Flight Nurse for the Pennsylvania Air National Guard where she added passport stamps in such locations as Germany, Japan and Cuba to name a few.

Betsy has donated over 600 hours of service helping with the development and implementation of volunteer education operations to both Chester and Delaware County vaccination efforts. She provides CCDC Leadership with sage advice and guidance to clarify issues, provide a different perspective, and kind suggestions to improve our organization. We are a better organization because of Betsy Walls!
